Dr. Sofia Monter has 30 years of experience in general, children's and orthodontic dentistry, continually training in Australia and overseas. She graduated Cum Laude in 1989 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of the State of Mexico. She later passed the Dental Council Examination with a major distinction and was recognised as the Most Outstanding Female Candidate by the Women's Dental Association of Victoria in 2007. In 2020 she was named a recipient of the Pierre Fauchard Academy Fellowship. The Pierre Fauchard Academy (PFA) is an international, honorary dental organisation, and Fellowship is a highly esteemed, invitation-only honour recognising dentists who have made outstanding contributions to the art and science of dentistry; Dr. Sofia Monter was specifically distinguished with the PFA Fellowship for her ongoing excellence in orthodontics.
Her special interest is orthodontics. Particularly early, airway-focused treatment. She completed the EODO two-year orthodontic residency in Sydney with world-renowned orthodontist Dr Derek Mahony, training in his full-face, airway-focused philosophy: assess children early (around age 5), look at breathing and sleep rather than just crowding, guide jaw growth while it's happening, and keep extractions to an absolute minimum.
Dr. Sofia Monter provides braces and clear aligners (Invisalign™) for children, teens and adults, performs tongue-tie assessments and releases, and tailors preventive care. Including fluoride-free clean options Coming soon. To each family's preferences.
